A crocodile killed a pregnant woman in Papua New Guinea on the same day a wild pig killed a 14-year-old boy in the same area.

Police in West New Britain (WNB), on PNG's north island province, killed the croc last Friday after it took a 23-year-old pregnant woman while she bathed in the Tulup river near Garmate village.

On the same day, a young boy was killed during a hunting expedition at Kilenge village in an unrelated attack, WNB police chief Richard Mulou told AAP.

"It was just a coincidence these similar attacks happened on the same day, in the same area," he said.

"There are a number of rivers in the province but this is the first croc attack in the last three years."

Mr Mulou ordered local police to hunt and kill the crocodile as it posed a continued threat to villagers.

"An elderly relative had warned the woman about a big crocodile sighted earlier in the day.

"She took a big risk when bathing in the evening.

"She went down, removed her clothes and her seven-year-old niece saw her being taken," he said.

"A search party was out all night until the morning in the next day, when they found and killed the crocodile.

"They cut open the stomach and retrieved the remains," he said.

Mr Mulou said locals reported the death of the boy during the pig hunt.

"The young fellow was chasing a wild pig, into one of their traps, they cornered it and the pig turned around and attacked.

"The two other men tried to rescue the boy and they were attacked," he said.

"I have appealed to locals to be extra cautious with crocodiles and pigs," he said.
